Goodbye Files

So my hard disk where I’ve put everything scanlation related got broken, checked it by a friend and unfortunately the files cannot be saved. Because of this, I might or might not quit scanlation. I may just take a long break but I don’t know when I’ll get those translations and other files back :<

I’m sorry that this happened.

I love your projects. I hope you don’t quit.

You might try this product: Runtime Software- GetBackData

I was able to recover 233G from my portable hard.

    I’m really sorry for this.
I know how you feel. I had the same problem last year.
But may be there is a solution.
I don’t know what happen till now, but i can give you some some ideas.
If your disk is with problem electronic part, you can find the same model disk and swap it with yours.
Like this you can have access to your disk.
If your disk is physically broken there is a solution again. They open the disk and put disk platters on stand to read the information. It’s one time only and there is lost information – broken platters, but it works.
But this is expensive. Like really expensive…
There is a virus in the net lately which codes your files and you can’t access them.
I think that the solution here is paying again. They give you the key for the code or decode your files.
I don’t know how it works.
If the information is not really important people here format their disks and reinstall them again.

My case was the first one. The problem was that my disk was more than 10 years old. We couldn’t find the same model till last week.
My colleague find one and and I received most of my lost information.
Mostly personal – pictures and etc. But there was same subtitle files I was working at – tens of hours of work. :)

I hope that you resolved your problem till now.

I can imagine just how greatly discouraged you are at this horrible loss! I’ve been there, too. Please don’t quit, though. I think your work is wonderful, and I’ve followed you for a long, long time. I am so sorry that this happened, but perhaps this only means that the projects you had are gone, not that you should never try working on new projects. Maybe? I would hate to see a talent like yours stop touching so many lives. However, I respect your feelings and whatever decision you make. Know, though, that I personally will miss you terribly. If you do decide to walk away from scanlating, well, I wish you all the best and hope for your happiness. I thank you for all of your hard work and personal sacrifice, but mostly for promoting yaoi and sharing such great works with us, for making such treasures available to the world and those of us who would never have the opportunity and privilege to experience them otherwise. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I commend you for your talents and for allowing the world to enjoy both your talent and your joy in scanlation, which is so clearly apparent in your work. Please take care! *giant long hug*

Nooo, don’t quit!! Your scanlations are of great quality, interesting and overall awesome :) It would be a huge loss if you truly did quit. Therefore, just take a [long] break if need be so that your scanlating powers return, please! You can be sure that a lot of people will await your return (myself included) and welcome you back with open arms! <3

There is a really good program I’ve used before to get files off a dead hard drive. It’s called Easy Recovery Pro, and while it won’t necessarily get everything back, and you need another hard-drive the same size or bigger to copy the recovered files onto, it works really well.

ryu said the HD has security. I think using HD cloner is the best solution, like Orico Dual Docking Station. We don’t need to access the HD using PC. Just put on the orico, the old and new HD, and press start. 30 minute later, new HD with the completely the same files and setting as the old one.

I’m sad to hear about your hard drive but i still hope you won’t quit scanlation for good. Your group is one of the best out there. Don’t let it bring you down.
Btw,does that mean that Kocchi Muite Waratte will be dropped now? You were working on it together with Indigo Scans so maybe they have a copy of the last chapters and its translations?

Nah, I won’t quit. Just probably go on a long break again. Indigo and I will still work on Kocchite, don’t worry. Fortunately, I had the scans saved on my computer =)

    oh wow after I just freaked out because my pc was doing terrible noises and went into startup repair mode >.< luckily it worked and now I'm copying everything I have in the pc in my external HD, the risk of losing everything is always around the corner, it's frightening ;A;

aww this is really bad :(
    Please don’t quit scanlation
I do recommend using a cloud system next time for extremely important files. I recommend onedrive but I guess it’s better to have and use multiple systems just in case

uwo… your HD have security system? I prefer not to use security system since it would make it harder to get the files. If the broken like HD files/ bytes goes 0 but still accessible there’s still chance the files retrievable. But security system would make it impossible to do that. The least they could do was change it with new HDD. Let’s hope they can.

I cannot not use it since it’s a new type of HD brand. Sigh.

      • 05/14/2015 at 12:08 AM

wouldn’t formatting the HD would remove the security? No?
